Katie is top dog at Tails of Achievement Awards

Golden Retriever Katie
took first place at the third annual James Wellbeloved/Association of Pet Dog
Trainers Tails of Achievement Awards. Katie is an assistance
dog for partially sighted Lisa Lawton - who trained the Katie
herself with assistance from APDT trainer Theresa Franklin as she
was not eligible for a Guide Dog. Katie, who Lisa says
has 'given me back my confidence and enabled me to tackle life
full-on again', now helps Lisa with everything from
finding her keys to leading her to the nearest cash point.
The event, held at
Newbury Racecourse, brought together 15 finalists and was judged by
David Macfarlane of the APDT, Sarah Wright, Editor of Your
Dog, and Peter Lancaster, Marketing Director of James
Wellbeloved.
Second place was awarded
to blind Greyhound Elliot and third went to Lurcher Rosie - once a
terrified, over-excitable rescue puppy, and now - following
her APDT training - a caring, protective dog who helped her
owner's mum when she had a fall.
Congratulations to all
the dogs, their owners and their APDT trainers who took part in the
event!
